Texas Tech along with the rest of the nation took time out on Wednesday to honor the late president, George H.W. Bush.

Saddle Tramps rang the victory bell 41 times to honor his service.

“President Bush was not only a great president, but a great American overall who served his county and the American people,” said Quillin McKenney, a Saddle Tramp.

Normally when a tragedy occurs, Texas Tech University will cover the Will Rogers and Soapsuds statue with black. However, Saddle Tramps say they wanted to honor the president a little differently.

“We don’t want this to be a tragedy, instead it’s a celebration,” said Jake Vanhorn. “The victory bells stand for so many good things in our community, and we thought it was a better representation for our way to remember President Bush.”

Whether students liked or disliked President Bush, most could be seen taking a moment to reflect on his legacy.

“I think it’s nice that we just come together and honor this man,” said Matthew Rogers. “No matter the political party he was our president and he deserves to be honored as such.”
