Since Coach Beard became the Texas Tech Men’s Basketball coach, he has always stressed the importance in having a strong home court, which comes from a relationship with the students.
From die hard fans, Wes Law, Justin Moore and Michael Di-Benedetto, the Raider Riot emerged.
Law said the Raider Riot is the same student section that has always been around, but now it has been given a name and started to pick up steam.
“One day me and a couple other guys would dress up every game and got on ESPN a couple times,” Moore said. ” We were like well how can we include more students because the games were empty when we were doing this.”
Di-Benedetto said as the organization has grown, he believes they have had an influence to the games they attend.
“I mean look at our home record,” Di-Benedetto said. “We’ve only had two home losses in the last two years, no other school is doing what we’re doing.”
Law said he has always grown up cheering on the Red Raiders, and hopes what he has helped start here will continue on.
“We want to be able to watch our TVs,” Law said. “Watch a tech game wherever we are and see that it didn’t end with us, it got bigger.”
