The Texas Tech Digital Design and Fabrication Program has worked diligently to expand its collection of printers that are accessible to students.
“I think seeing everyone’s designs come to life is pretty cool. They have designs in their head, then they finally get it, thanks to the machines. It’s pretty cool,” Darbie Roach, student assistant for the 3D Printing Lab, said.
The lab holds several different printers, ranging between $800 and $45,000 a piece. Depending on the machine, students have the opportunity to build with different materials.
“You draw a shape in the computer, then you save it as a file, then you send it to the printer. Then it prints it on whatever, and it makes it a reality,” Roach said.
The machines are only available for students to use. Some of the machines are located in the student library while others are located in the Architecture building.
