A business owner and homeowner are thankful after their camera security systems captured the thieves that targeted their property.
Early Monday morning, three thieves rammed a car into the glass doors of Adventure Power Sports. Inside, they took an ATV and dirt bike. But didn’t take them far, after they realized they’d have to push the vehicles home. The vehicles were later abandoned in a nearby parking lot.
Down the road in central Lubbock, a thief stole two security cameras from a home, all while the security cameras were recording his face.
Without the security footage, police would have a harder time capturing the criminals.
“It catches something for a burglary, we can get a face and get these guys off the streets that are doing the break-ins,” said Art Rodriguez, owner of Go Safe Security.
Thankfully for Lee Duemer, the two stolen cameras didn’t stop recording so he got a clear picture of the burglars’ face.
“It’s very intrusive. It’s certainly been on the front of my mind the last few days,” said Duemer.
Duemer is now concerned that the criminal was taking his security cameras in preparation for possibly coming back to the area to break into houses.
“Obviously, we’re not dealing with an intellect elite here,” said Duemer. “My concern is that because these are the cameras in the ally, the back of the house, he may have been trying to set up a burglary. That was the most concerning aspect so I immediately replaced them.”
Go Safe Security and other security companies are seeing an increase in requests for home security systems.
“It’s not where we were ten years ago. It’s not like you can leave your doors unlocked,” said Rodriguez. “Lubbock is growing and getting bigger and bigger and with that there’s more crime so we got to protect what we have.”
To protect your property, security companies recommend going one step further than cameras and install an alarm system that alerts the police when there is a potential break in.
