Toys for Tots distributes toys to families in need every year. If your family needs toys for this Christmas season, the last day to request toys from the organization is Friday, December 1. You can also donate to Toys for Tots until December 13.
“It’s for the kids! Who doesn’t want to help a kid, right? Who doesn’t want to help a child have a Christmas even if it’s just one toy?” says Sergeant Rosa Leonor, Toys for Tots coordinator.
Toys for Tots has been distributing toys to those in need for 70 years. Thousands of children in Lubbock and surrounding counties are expected to receive gifts because of this organization. They’re asking for your help to send a message of hope to a child on Christmas day.
“We’re expecting a lot more toys than this… from the community’s help so everything else will be based off of the donations that the community itself brings in to the foundation,” says Leonor.
“It’s one of the greatest feelings. These people are truly appreciative of the toys and getting something. I have many stories that families come in here, and they’re crying that they wanted to have a good Christmas. But the generosity of Lubbock and surrounding communities, they come in here and they donate that toy,” says 1st Sergeant Orlando Castillo, who has been involved with Toys for Tots for seven years.
They will be distributing these gifts on the 15th, 16th, and 17th.
