On Friday, August 11, the Texas Tech School of Theatre & Dance Complex will host a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the expansion and renovation of the Charles E. Maedgen, Jr. Theatre.
The expansion and renovations are made possible through a generous gift from the J.T. & Margaret Talkington Charitable Foundation for $10 million. The gift will allow the implementation of new cutting-edge technology, a brand new study, and rehearsal space for students and faculty.
Dr. Mark Charney, director of the School of Theatre & Dance, said the expansion has been something both staff and students have been greatly looking forward to. He shared what he’s excited about most is the entire department and students being able to work and grow under the same roof, versus being scattered throughout other buildings.
The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday at the theatre, located at 2812 18th Street. Guest parking will be available in the R3 parking lot.
