Local Uber drivers said they are starting to see a serious increase in the amount of ride requests they are getting from underage riders.

“Right now, we’re showing a growing trend of kids, especially first thing in the morning. It’s when mom and dad go to work, and kids are requesting rides to get to school,” Rick Taylor, a local Uber driver, said.

According to Taylor, Uber highly suggests drivers do not pick up riders under the age of 18. He said it becomes the driver’s responsibility if something were to happen.

“If there is a wreck, then that it becomes my liability for your children,” Taylor said.

Taylor is a father of two, and he said he would never let his kids take an Uber by themselves.
“Just because an Uber account shows a face and a name, it may not be the person pulling up on that account,” Taylor said.

Kids 18 and under are allowed to ride in Uber if they are accompanied by an adult.
