LUBBOCK, Texas — On Memorial Day, Nathan Luger celebrated his 100th birthday. After serving in the military for 20 years, Luger said he never expected to return home alive, let alone make it to 100.
“I’m delighted to reach the age of 100,” Nathan said. “I was one of five brothers in my family that served in World War II, and we all came home, never had a scratch all came home in one piece.”
Luger said his secret to living a long life is walking a mile a day and eating healthy, which his wife, Marci Luger, said she doesn’t quite agree with.
“He said he eats very carefully, which he doesn’t at all,” Marci said. “He loves chips, ice cream, cokes, all that kind of stuff.”
Marci said on Memorial Day it is important to celebrate not only her husband, but also the thousands of other soldiers who gave their life to the United States.
