A Tahoka man killed by a drunken driver was honored by his family with a TxDOT sign encouraging drivers to not drink and drive.

“From the police report, he (the drunk driver) was going at 100 miles per hour on a four-lane highway the wrong way, and there is no excuse for that,” said Laena Gwin, wife of Terry Gwin, who was killed in the crash.

The crash happened on November 14, 2017. Laena said she hopes the sign will make other drivers think twice about getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.

The sign states, “Please don’t drink and drive. In memory of Terry Gwin. November 14, 2017”.

“If they can read the sign, put a name and a date to the death, and it was because of someone drinking and driving, I pray they take that with them and know it’s not OK to drink and drive,” Laena said.

The sign is located just about five miles south of Tahoka on US-87, where the crash happened.
