A local Vietnam Veteran received a helping hand from other local veterans and ROTC members in the community.
“I really think they deserve respect and dignity because at the end of the day you don’t know what the destiny will be,” Maria Rios, husband of Vietnam
Lupe Rios suffered two major strokes back in 2016 that confined him to a wheelchair. His wife Maria Rios said they were in the process of fixing up their home when the strokes hit.
“It changed a lot. We were in the process of fixing the inside of the home when that happened and everything came to a stand still,” Maria said.
VetStar and the Scabbard and Blade ROTC program teamed up to help the Rios family out.
“Getting veterans together to communicate is important. We don’t wear uniforms anymore so the community service is a big deal,” Colonel Dave Lewis, the Director of VetStar said.
They spent the whole day painting the outside of the family’s home.
