This week as part of an event called Save-a-Pet-Adopt-A-Thon, Lubbock Animal Services provided information to make pet adoption easier.
If you find an animal at LAS that fits your family, you can fill out an adoption application.
LAS Assistant Director, Kia Riemath said the process can be as short as 30 minutes.
“If you rent your landlord will have to be notified to see that they do not have a problem with it,” Riemath said. “If you own that is perfect. If you have other animals bring them up and we will do a meet and greet to see if they get along.”
While the adoption process is easy, there is a lot to be considered. Riemath said it is important to be realistic about how much space you have in your home for the animal. It is also important to make sure the animal has shelter when it goes outside.
Adopting from Lubbock Animal Services means they take care of a few basic needs of the animal.
“They are spayed and neutered and they have their rabies shot,” Riemath said. “They are micro chipped ahead of time.”
