Whiteface High School Antelope Marching Band puts it mark on Texas history after taking home the State Championship in San Antonio Monday.
“To hear Whiteface got first was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’ all that hard work and it paid off,” Band Member Brooklyn Reyna said.
The band is made up of about 75 students, ranging from 8th grade to 12th grade. Whiteface Antelopes perform everywhere from home football games, as well as, in Washington D.C.
“They’re out here whether it’s hot or cold, raining it doesn’t matter, they’re out here,” Parents and Whiteface Booster Club President Anitra Gomez said. “They’re marching, they’re counting their steps, they know their steps. They follow through and they know their music.”
“Of course, our goal was winning but our main goal was how perfect can we get our show,” Band Member Averi Dockery said. “How we all come together as a team. We got to see that when they announced that they won.”
Family and friends lined the streets for their homecoming Tuesday evening, with a police escort to bring the bus to the high school.
“So it was a lot of hard work but it was good because not only did we grow and ond together but we also became a family,” Reyna said.
Whiteface High School will be holding an awards ceremony Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
