A Wichita Falls couple has been arrested for beating a 2-year old child to death, and her family is now trying to bring her back to Lubbock.
Olivia Newsom was brought into Clay County Memorial Hospital on Monday with severe bruising around her head and body. Doctors at Clay County Memorial Hospital found extensive brain injuries in the little girl, and she died Thursday from her injuries.
Her mother, Sarah Newsom, and her boyfriend, Joshua Fulbright, were charged with first degree felony of causing injury to a child resulting in serious injury.
According to police, Newsom and Fulbright hid the child’s injuries until she was unconscious, and they admitted to routinely slapping the child.
After Olivia died, officials have not said if charges will be upgraded.
Both Newsom and Fulbright were still held Friday at Clay County Jail on $250,000 bond each.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying, “Our hearts are broken today. Nothing else can be or should be said.”
Olivia’s family members are also stepping forward. “I don’t understand what a little girl could have possibly have done to deserve such a thing,” said Jolene Newsom, Olivia’s aunt. “She was such a sweet girl, and an absolute angel.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up in Olivia’s honor, asking for donations to help cover her medical and funeral expenses. If you would like to donate, you can reach it HERE.
