One woman battle with pneumonia caused her to lose her hands, legs, and almost her life. Now Crish McCutcheon is just beginning to recover at Trust Point Reahbilitation Center and find her new ‘normal.’

“The first thing I remember is waking up, and stretching my legs, and feeling no legs,” said Crish McCutcheon.

Crish says she’s thought it was a cold. Her head and chest had been bothering her for a few weeks and went to bed early. It wasn’t until her husband, Michael McCutchon, tried to wake her that he knew something was wrong.

“She wasn’t waking up, I thought she had a stroke,” Michael said. “I didn’t think anything be her going to bed early, I mean who doesn’t do that when they aren’t feeling well?”

However, when she didn’t wake up Michael called an ambulance. At UMC Hospital it was determined that Crish had pneumonia that was turning septic. Michael and Crish’s family had to make the decision to amputate Crish’s hands and legs in order to save her life.

“It was a very strange feeling waking up and not having them there,” Crish said. “The doctors didn’t think I would make it, but I am very competitive and said I’ll show you!”

Crish shocked her doctors and family, and recovered quickly. Now Crish’s family is helping her get new prosthetics so that she can hold her grandchildren. If you would like to donate you can do so HERE.
