October is domestic violence awareness month, and Thursday Go Purple Day. Women’s Protective Services is encouraging members of the community to wear purple to start a conversation to break the silence about domestic abuse.
According to Women’s Protective Services, every minute, 20 people become a victim of domestic violence. Nationally, 146 women lost their lives to domestic abuse, and Go Purple Day is a day set aside to honor those victims and stand up for those suffering in silence.
“We are stepping up and we want to make a difference in domestic violence on the South Plains,” Bill Holtzclaw with Women’s Protective Services said. “It’s great to get a collective of people to step up and show that we are trying to eradicate these atrocities around here.”
Additionally, Mayor Dan Pope will sit down with Women’s Protective Services to discuss domestic violence on the South Plains. It will be streamed on the Women’s Protective Services Facebook page.
