The Silent Wings Museum hosted an honorary ceremony for World War II Veteran Andrew Winnegar. Winnegar was presented with six Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal.
“I didn’t really think they would ever get around to this. The reason they weren’t presented before is because I was sent to flight school I didn’t come back with my ship,” Winnegar said.
Michael Hall the Commanding Officer with the Navy Recruiting District of Dallas, said these medals were long over due for Winnergar.
“He certainly served in one of the bloodiest and fiercest fights during the war. We certainly don’t want to forget our past. We do have a bond as Naval Aviators. He served in a time when Naval Aviation was much more dangerous,” Hall said.
