The wonderful thing about living in West Texas is all the adventures we have right next door.
The City of Hobbs, New Mexico, is only an hour and a half west of Lubbock and is filled with lots of “day trip” adventures.

“They can really enjoy a little mini vacation, a staycation if you will, so visitors don’t have to drive miles and miles to enjoy our facilities,” Hotel Executive of Zia Park, Dora Chavarria said.

Gambling isn’t legal in Texas but it is in New Mexico making the quick trip to Hobbs a dream to those with the itch to gamble. Also, between September and December they hold horse racing.

“Once you get into Hobbs you can really feel the energy of the casino here. They can also enjoy 720 machines to play with here,” Chavarria said.

Chavarria said the hotel is a great getaway for parents.

“Even parents need a little time away just to spend quality time with each other. There is a little time change of course, so you gain an hour, so when you leave and it’s 2:00 a.m. over there it’s only 1:00 a.m. here,” Chavarria said.

Other quick trips from Lubbock to New Mexico include Carlsbad Caverns, which includes hiking the caves and Ruidoso where you can find skiing and other summer adventures.
