We flirted with a record high this afternoon here in the Lubbock metro area. The high today was 77° and our record high today was 78° from 1986. Highs this afternoon ranged from the middle 70s to the lower 80s across the region, according to West Texas Mesonet data. A few clouds will return tonight across the area, but it will be warmer with lows only dropping down into the upper 30s. You can thank a southwesterly breeze tonight for the warmer lows. Our Sunday will start out mainly sunny and breezy but it will turn windy and dusty in the afternoon. The wind will pick up out of the west and southwest by midday and into the afternoon to 30-40 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph. It will stay windy into the evening hours.

Extended Forecast:
The extended forecast shows a dry weather pattern in place for the new week across the south plains and the rolling plains. Forecast models also show no blasts of cold air are expected as well. Highs will be in the middle to upper 50s for the first half of the week, before warning back into the lower and middle 60s by Thursday and Friday. Highs will drop back into the 50s by next Saturday. Overnight lows will pretty much hold in the middle to upper 20s. The only exception will be on Friday morning, when we warm into the lower 30s.
