A Break From The Heat: With the exception of the far western and southwestern South Plains, most everyone had cooler weather today. You can thank the east and southeast wind that brought moisture back into the area. The added moisture in the air also helped keep daytime highs down across the area. The high pressure area is shifting off to the west this weekend. Highs today ranged from the upper 80s to the low 100s. Highs on Sunday should be into the lower and middle 90s across the area. Keep in mind the normal high is around 91° for mid-June. Highs will be into the middle 90s to start the week. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Small Thunderstorm Chance: There is a small chance for a thunderstorm or two across the area Saturday evening and again on Sunday afternoon and early into Saturday evening. Since the ridge has shifted somewhat westward, we’ve been able to get some moisture back into the area. At this point, storm chances are only around 10% area wide.

The Heat Returns Next Week:  The heat ridge will build back across the area by mid to late week. Highs will climb back into the upper 90s by the end of the week and next weekend. Overnight lows will be in the lower 70s.

College World Series Forecast: Texas Tech will take on Texas Christian in Omaha starting at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Temperatures will be in the middle 90s at first pitch with a forecasted high of 98° for the Omaha area. Mostly sunny and humid across eastern Nebraska on Sunday. There could be a few storms by Sunday evening.

Summer 2016: The summer solstice will occur on Monday, June 20th at 5:34 p.m. CT.
