Colder Weather & Snow Chances Return: Colder air is spilling into the region this morning. Daytime highs today will only get to around 30 here in the Lubbock early this afternoon. It will stay in the 20s over the northern counties and 30s over the southern counties. Technically, our high today in Lubbock was just after midnight. Very cold tonight with lows in the lower to middle 10s over the area. Areas of light snow will develop overnight and into Friday and move across the area. The best snow chances will be to the north where a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Texas Panhandle. At the moment, there are no advisories in place in our viewing area.
Snowfall Amounts: The higher snowfall accumulation will be across the far southern Texas Panhandle and the northern South Plains and the Rolling Plains where 1.00″ – 3.00″ of snow is possible. This would generally be north of a line from Muleshoe to Plainview to Matador. We expect 0.50″ to 1.00″ over the central areas of the South Plains and the Rolling Plains, including the Lubbock metro area. This would generally be along a line including Plains, Levelland, Lubbock, Ralls and Dickens. Snow amounts of 0.50″ or less are expected over the southern counties of the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. This would include Brownfield, Tahoka and Post. Little or no snow is expected over the northern Permian Basin. This would include Seminole, Lamesa and Snyder.
