Good Afternoon!

Cooler This Afternoon, Warmer Tomorrow: Temperatures are on the cooler side this afternoon on the South & Rolling Plains thanks to a frontal boundary that moved into the area overnight. Highs this afternoon will only be in the middle and upper 60s across the area. It may get to 70 along the Texas and New Mexico state line. It’ll be cooler today across the Rolling Plains. The wind is out of the east and northeast this morning. It will shift to the southeast late this morning and to the south by the afternoon. Areas of fog will develop late night and into early on Thursday morning. This fog will burn off quickly. A southwesterly wind will help warm us back into the middle 80s across the area. Another front will arrive on Friday, dropping highs back into the upper 70s and lower 80s on Friday and into the middle 70s on Saturday.

Weekend Outlook: Highs will range in the middle and upper 70s on Saturday. A breezy southwesterly wind will return on Sunday warming us into the middle and upper 80s.

Next Week: Monday appears to be warmest day in the extended forecast with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s will a gusty southwesterly wind. Another front to move into the region and drop daytime highs on Tuesday back into the middle and upper 70s.

Rain Chances: Unfortunately, the long-range forecast model runs this morning do not show any rain chances for the South Plains and the Rolling Plains over the next seven days. The latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor shows a small portion of the Panhandle, South Plains and the Permian Basin have slipped back into the “abnormally dry” category.

Spring Arrives Monday: The Vernal Equinox will occur on Monday, March 20 at 5:29 a.m. local time.
