For the fifth year in a row Kool Smiles Dentistry is hosting their annual ‘Operation Troop Treats’ where trick-or-treaters are invited to bring 25 pieces of unopened candy to either Kool Smiles location, in exchange for a toy. Partnering with Operation Gratitude and Troop Treats, Dr. Don Gifford said packages are then made and sent to soldiers overseas.
“It’s a great sacrifice that they put in, in order to leave their families and their homes and to go overseas and serve on our behalf,” said Gifford. “This is a small way that we can show gratitude in what they do for us and show appreciation for the sacrifices they make.”
From now until November 5th, anyone can bring candy and contribute to the cause. On Halloween night, people are invited to stop by the Kool Smile locations and even write letters to the troops as well. Last year, all 140 locations across the nation accumulated 6,000 pounds of candy. Gifford said they are also trying to spread awareness about cavities.
“Getting cavities is about the frequency of how often we are putting sugar on our teeth, how intense that sugar is, and how long it stays on our teeth,” said Gifford. “If we can reduce those factors, we can reduce those chances of the child getting decay at an early age.”
