The lawyer representing the family of a man who died in an industrial accident said the company has not informed the family of the circumstances of his death.

Raymundo Correa, 38, died on March 26 when he got stuck in a hydraulic press he was trying to fix, according to Lubbock Police.

“The family has got no clear information at all from the company,” said lawyer Rob Ammons, who is representing Correa’s relatives.

“It hasn’t even been a one way street, it has been a dead end. We have made every effort to approach this in a rational way, a way that you’d expect a company that really cared about their employees and their employees’ families, to respond to,” he said.

Correa’s family filed a petition for a temporary restraining order against the company, Diamond Plastics Corporation that would prevent tampering of the equipment.

“The intent of the lawsuit is simply to preserve the evidence, preserve the machine, preserve the records that exist, so that the family can have access to things and the critical evidence is not destroyed,” Ammons explained. Diamond Plastics corporation has made no effort to inform the family regarding what happened, and why Raymundo was killed.”

Ammons said Diamond Plastics had not been responsive to his legal team, or the family, despite multiple attempts for communication.

Diamond Plastics had no comment on Friday.

Friday afternoon, after a reporter from EverythingLubbock.com called Diamond Plastics for comment, Ammons said he received a call from a representative from of the company. That representative told Ammons the company was “retaining council” in an effort to either settle the case out-of-court, or continue with the scheduled hearing next week.

“It could be a problem with the machine. It could be that a guard was removed from the machine by Diamond Plastics Corporation. We just don’t know at this point. And we don’t know why they won’t allow us access. It really causes one to feel like ‘do they have something to hide?'” Ammons explained.

“Information is power. Right now, this family, not only have they lost a loved one, but they are powerless to even figure out what happened. Diamond Plastics Corporation is stonewalling them in any and every effort they make to try to get access to information,” Ammons said.

He said he hoped the company would cooperate with the requests to prevent similar situations in the future.

“On behalf of this family, and others that work for Diamond Plastics Corporation, let us have access, let us have information, so at least this family will know why their loved one was killed,” Ammons added.
