The deadline to submit protest forms for property valuations is Tuesday, May 31, at midnight.
Many homeowners reported increases in their property values despite not having done any improvements to their residences.
According to Tim Radloff, Chief Appraiser for the Lubbock Central Appraisal District, 4,400 protests were filed this year. He said more than 1,600 of them were settled, and an additional 1,300-plus had been scheduled for hearings.
“Photographs and estimates are the most important things that you can possibly take. Give them something that they can hang their hat on, that they can sink their teeth into, to help you get your value down,” said registered property tax consultant Gary Adrian.
The deadline to submit forms and paperwork in order to protest current property valuations is May 31 at midnight. Protesters may submit by mail (postmarked by May 31), or drop off in person at the LCAD office located at 2109 Avenue Q.
“They can go to our website and print one off, fill it out. We do have a drop box. As long as they drop that protest by midnight tonight (Tuesday), their protest would be considered timely,” Radloff said.
“Two things you need to walk into the Appraisal District with. The first is good, solid evidence, and the second is a good attitude,” Adrian explained.
