On Friday, March 10, Mayor Dan Pope will moderate a community panel hosted by LCU, in an open discussion about the needs of citizens, racial equality, accessibility, and how to promote healthy, sustainable conversation.
The panelist for the discussion titled, Citizens in Community: Creating Trust through Conversation, are community leaders –
• Floyd Price, former city councilman and police officer
• LaLa Chavez, Lubbock Independent School District trustee
• Dr. Abdul Hamood, adviser for TTU’s Muslim Student Assoc. and professor at TTUHSC
• Greg Stevens, Lubbock police chief
• Holly Duncan, CEO of Parkridge pregnancy clinic
The public is invited to attend the free community forum and participate in breakout groups for deeper discussion with the panelist and other community leaders.
“We hope that this day of conversation will shed light on our community’s needs as well as help facilitate creative thought about how to ensure that all families on the South Plains share in the opportunities and success the city provides,” said Michael Hardin, event organizer and a behavioral sciences professor at LCU.
Topics discussed will include teen pregnancy and STD rates, understanding multiple faith traditions, minority struggles, and strengthening the relationship between the police department and the community.
The forum is one of many events taking place during LCU’s 5th annual Healthy Families Conference featuring international speaker and author, Dr. Terry Hargrave.
The two-day conference will include, keynote sessions, breakout sessions, social work and counseling professional networking and continuing education units, and the community forum panel discussion. For the complete schedule of the two-day conference visit, LCU.edu/strong-families.
