The Lea County Commission for the arts aims to provide information about visual performances, live music, literary arts and so much more. The Center for the Arts in Hobbs, is the hub for local artists to display their work. The Center for the Arts was built with the support of the J.F. Maddox foundation to renovate a building downtown and provide a space for artists to display their things and have concerts, dance recitals and more. Executive Director, Andrew Akufo, says that Hobbs is becoming a focal point for New Mexico tourism and culture.
“When people think of New Mexico and think about the arts, they think about Taos, Santa Fe and Albuquerque, but Hobbs is richer than a lot of people understand within the arts and the culture,” Akufo said. “It all starts over here at the center for the arts and then it just translates into the rest of the community.”
The Center for the Arts even offers programs for children to get involved and excited about the arts. You can find more information about the Lea County Commission for the Arts and the events they put on at www.hobbsevents.org.
