Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a home in the 8800 block of 9th Street Monday afternoon.  Firefighters found a victim inside along with two dogs.

Flames could be seen coming from the roof.  An image from the scene showed firefighters were applying water from outside the structure – not the inside.  It also appeared that part of the roof might have collapsed.

“The second floor landing was burned out,” said LFR Division Chief Steve Holland.  “[Firefighters] couldn’t advance any further.”

LFR said they encountered a large area of floor burned through on the second floor and crews used a ladder to enter the home through the second story windows.

Lubbock Fire Rescue said neighbors reported they had knocked on the door and gotten no answer. According to LFR shortly after getting to the second floor, fire broke through the roof and a portion of the roof collapsed.

“They noticed they had a victim in one of the upstairs bedrooms,” Holland said.

LPD and the Medical Examiner’s Office were notified to assist in the investigation. The Fire Marshal’s Office continues investigating the scene, crews have been on scene since six Monday evening.

LFR has yet to identify the victim or the cause and origin of the fire. This story will continue to be updated.
