Lubbock ISD issued the following statement concerning transgender students using the restroom of their choice rather than the restroom that corresponds to biological gender.

“Lubbock ISD has no policy on bathroom and locker room use by transgender students. We have not yet received any official communication from the U.S. Department of Justice or the U.S. Department of Education on this issue. As with anything involving students, we will continue to work through this on a case-by-case basis in a way that upholds the privacy, safety and best interest of all students.”

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said Friday morning in a news conference that superintendents statewide should not follow guidance from the federal government on the issue.  The federal guidance released to the public on Friday indicated that schools could lose federal funding for not allowing transgender students to use the restrooms or locker rooms of their choice.
