LISD Teacher Hurt in Crash near San Angelo

A Lubbock ISD teacher was hurt in a crash north of San Angelo on Wednesday night.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the two-vehicle crash happened Wednesday evening on State Highway 153 in Nolan County.

A vehicle driven by Jeffrey Thomas Poole, 34, of Lubbock, “attempted to pass (another vehicle) in a  non-passing zone,” and crashed into an oncoming van.

Poole was airlifted to a hospital in San Angelo with “incapacitating injuries,” DPS said. His condition was not made available by hospital officials.

DPS said Poole was wearing a seatbelt.

Poole is listed as a mathematics instructor at Coronado High School in Lubbock.

“The family asked for privacy until they have more information and the injured teacher is medically stabilized,” an LISD spokesperson said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time.”

Four people were in the other vehicle, DPS said.

The driver, Wayne Kohut, 55, of Colorado Springs, CO, was treated for “non-incapacitating injuries.” DPS indicated he was wearing a seatbelt.

One of the passengers, Ben Kohut, 18, who was wearing a seatbelt, was “possibly injured,” DPS stated.

The remaining two passengers, Carrie Kohut, 52, and Emily Kohut, 22, both sustained “incapacitating injuries.” DPS said Emily Kohut was not wearing a seatbelt, and was transported by helicopter to a San Angelo hospital for treatment.
