Temperatures hit record numbers this summer but a local musical said the show must go on.

Pirates of Penzance had its opening night Thursday evening and in triple digit heat.

“Whenever you get off stage, it’s all just just coats and everything just off,” Pirates of Penzance actor Josh Reynolds said. He’s been performing in summer plays for the past five years.

Other actors said tricks like make-up setting spray and powder helps keep his make-up in place during his performance.

Pirates of Penzance actor Chase Gibson said the heat can even affect his performance.

“We even try and make changes sometimes where if we have a lot of layers and some how not use as many layers in a scene beforehand and making it a lot cool for us in the long run,” Gibson said.

Pirates of Penzance musical will be held for the next three weeks.
