Lubbock National Bank’s Vice President and Director of Marketing Randy Laycock explained how to get your money back if you’ve been robbed from a skimmer device.
Laycock said the first step is to call your bank’s customer service to tell them your card information has been stolen. Then he recommends cancelling your debit or credit card. However, you have to notify them of fraudulent behavior in a timely manner or else you won’t qualify for consumer protection.
“Consumer protection laws does protect the consumer on fraudulent activity,” Laycock said. “So there’s zero liability to them as long as they contact the financial institution within I believe it’s thirty days.”
Laycock also recommends continuously monitoring your bank account for any signs of theft. You can check online, or some banks have smartphone apps to give you easy and quick access to your account.
