West Texas Firefighters have been battling the Panhandle fire for over a week now and some volunteer departments are running low on supplies.
“At this point and date we are replenishing supplies that has been used,” Jim Evans, the Associate Minister and Administrator for First Christian Church said.
Evans said they only decided this past weekend to start collecting donations and have had a great turn out. He said he has made several phone calls to find out which volunteer fire department needs the supplies the most.
“We found a department that was very very low and needed help. Stratford kept coming up that they didn’t get as much as the other departments over the weekend,” Evans said.
He said they have collected things like food and money, but they are asking for additional donations of drinking water.
“They need water and Gatorade, those are the things that are most requested. These are the things that get in the shortest supply the fastest, from what we’ve learned,” said Evans.

Evans said a volunteer is driving the donated items up to Stratford tomorrow morning at 9a.m. If you are interested in donating you can drop your items off before they leave in the morning at the church. Their address is 2323 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401.
