Many families across Lubbock spent their Saturday morning filling thousands of stockings that will be sent to American troops overseas for the upcoming holidays.

The event took place at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Volunteers have been working since January to get everything ready for these special care packages.

The stockings are filled with candy, toiletries, games, and handwritten cards from local politicians.

The stocking project has taken place over the last ten years. So far, they’ve sent over 30,000 stockings overseas.

Family Volunteer Day is a day of service that demonstrates and celebrates the power of families who volunteer together, supporting their neighborhoods, communities, and the world. Family Volunteer Day is strategically held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving to “kick-off” the holiday season with giving and service.
