People who file their taxes early, could already be expecting a refund. A local gunsmith said they notice an increase in sales once “tax refund season” starts.
“They’ll look at guns and they’ll say, ‘I’d like to get it but I’m waiting on my tax return in a couple of weeks,” Gunsmith Ricky Parrish of Fred’s Gun Emporium said.
Parrish said in Texas, it’s not unusual to see people spending their refunds on guns.
“You know a Texan with a gun,” Parrish said.
He said he has also noticed an increase in sales due to the early spring temperatures.
“During this time of the year, when it starts to get pretty, people want to go buy a brand new gun or used gun, and go out and use it.” Parrish said, “We’ve seen a spike in sales, and I attribute it to the better weather…maybe there are tax returns involved.”
Certified Public Accountant Cathy Fromm said taxes are due by Tuesday, April 18th, and you can anticipate your refund based on the complexity of your return.
