A local woman is nationally-known for her elaborate Christmas decor, and gave KLBK and Everything.com an inside look at her family’s holiday traditions.

The Interior Designer and Christmas Homeowner Julia Gill started this holiday tradition with “over the top” birthday parties for each of her four children. She added that birthday parties for her family inspired her to throw the biggest one of them all, for Jesus.

“It’s not about the decorations, it’s about relationships,” Gill said. “It started with relationships with my family.”

Those birthday parties inspired her to throw the biggest one of them all for Jesus Christ.

“I have a very strong relationship with my Lord,” Gill said. “This is what we’re celebrating is his birthday and so that’s why I go all out, go overboard, beyond, because of the celebration of my relationship with Jesus.”

Over the next 40 years, Gill spends months transforming her home into what they call a “Christmas legacy.”

She starts preparing her home in early October with a goal of being complete by her daughter’s birthday on December 5.

“I love to see people come in the door and not expect what they’re seeing,” Gill said. “Then as they turn a corner they go I thought I’d seen it all but there’s more in here and i love that part of it.”

Her inspiration even led her to Washington, D.C.

“I was given the privilege of going and decorating the White House for five years when the Bush’s were in office.”

Now, she shares her tips and tricks, holiday recipes, and life experience through her book, “Christmas Legacy.” It can be found on her website here

“Well it’s all worth it all then, staying up until two in the morning when I’ve been working all day,” Gill said. “it makes it worth it to me to be able to share all these memories and these things that God has given to me.”
