Lubbock Police are still investigating the case of stolen tires from Local Resident Marcos Reyna’s car on Saturday, October 22.

Reyna told KLBK and EverythingLubbock.com he had just woken up, quickly grabbing an item from his truck when he noticed it leaning on it’s side.

“I thought originally someone may have slashed my tires, just a teenager prank,” Reyna said. “Then I rounded the corner right here and saw that they were completely gone, sitting right here on the cinder block.”

Reyna said he reported the case to Lubbock Police that morning. When an officer arrived, he said Reyna was probably a targeted case because no other vehicles were hit during this time.

“Things like this, it’s the ultimate inconvenience,” Reyna said. “I know people who do this. I know people who come in and steal these items. It doesn’t matter what’s convenient for you. All that matters is what’s convenient for them. If they want it, they’re going to take it.”

LPD gave a report to EverythingLubbock.com that stated 110 cases of stolen tires from vehicles from October 2015 to present day.

The report also stated 11 cases of tires being taken from cars this month with seven more cases of spare tires taken.

“In the Fall and the Spring, we do usually notice an influx in all crime,” Auto Theft Task Force Crime Prevention Coordinator Mandy Myers said. “It can be a person’s crime, property crime, burglary of motor vehicle thefts, anything like that just due to the sheer volume of students that are brought in by Texas Tech and LCU.”

Myers said the best form of prevention would be to take everything out of the vehicle each time it’s parked.

“Leave your stuff at home, and lock your car, and don’t leave your keys in it,” Myers said.

If anyone has information about this case, or have also fallen victim to this crime, officials ask it to be reported on Crime Line at 741-1000.
