LUBBOCK, Texas — Around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night, the Department of Public Safety responded to a three-car collision on Highway 84 between FM 597 at Anton city limits and FM 168 at the east of Anton.
Initially a Trooper at the scene said one person died, and seven were injured. Later, DPS provided an update and said a second person died.
DPS identified the victims as Wendy Elle Payne, 18, of Amherst, and a 16-year-old described by DPS as the “sister of Payne.”
Special note: DPS spelled the name Elle but her Facebook page spelled the name as Ella.
DPS said Jasmine Nicole Burman, 28, of San Angelo was driving an SUV in the wrong lane. DPS said her SUV hit a passenger car driven by Payne.
DPS said another car, driven by John Howard Aasen, 72, yrs. of Richmond, then rear-ended Payne’s car.
DPS did not provide information on any charges or citations as of Thursday morning but did say, “The crash remains under investigation.”
