Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a house fire in the 5700 block of 3 rd Street Wednesday morning.  The call came in before 9:45 a.m.

A photojournalist on scene reported that no people were hurt but one dog and one cat died.  Two adults and three children were displaced, according to a photojournalist who talked LFR at the scene. 

Late Wednesday afternoon, LFR released the following information:

Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to 5738 3rd st for a reported structure fire at approximately 9:40 am. Upon arrival crews found fire showing from the back side of the structure. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished. All of the occupants were able to safely evacuate without injuries after being alerted about the fire by smoke detectors. Lubbock Fire Marshal’s office was called out and the fire origin was found in the master bedroom and the cause was ruled accidental related to the power cord of an electric blanket.
