Thousands of South Plains residents gathered Saturday morning for the annual Susan G. Komen Lubbock Area Race for the Cure.
The event was held at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
This year marked the 24th anniversary the race has been held in Lubbock.
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is a 5K run or 1 mile walk to raise money for breast cancer research.
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
Every 13 minutes, one woman in the U.S. will lose her life to breast cancer.
This year’s goal was to raise $185,000.
Race for the Cure has raised more than $2 billion to help fund research, education, screening and treatment.
