For 28 years, 4th on Broadway at Mackenzie Park has been an event that Lubbock and the entire region look forward to year after year. This year will be nothing short of the family fun Lubbockites have come to know. With a full day of events, there is something for everybody to enjoy.
The day will start off in the morning with the Yankee Doodle Dash and Sparkler Sprint. The Yankee Doodle Dash includes a 5k and one-mile run, while the Sparkler Sprint is a 100-yard dash, free for kids ages 6-12. To register or for more information, visit westtexasendurance.com.
Following the run, the Sonic Drive-In Parade will kick off at 9 a.m., featuring this year’s theme, “All You Need Is Love.” The parade will once again begin at Avenue M & Broadway, head east and turn north into Mackenzie Park on Canyon Lakes Drive. Those wanting to watch the parade can do so on Broadway downtown, in Mackenzie Park or from the comfort of their own home by watching it live-streamed on KLBK-TV!
After the parade, the park will be full of events throughout the rest of the day. The Second Annual Bolton Oil Change Youth Fishing Tournament hosted by Cabela’s will start around 10:30 a.m., with a weigh-in at 4 p.m. The lake will be stocked with catfish of all sizes, and with free entry and three different age groups (13-18, 8-12, and 7 and under), there is plenty of room for all who want to participate. Prizes will be awarded in each age group for largest fish, smallest fish and most fish. To register your little fisherman or fisherwoman, visit BroadwayFestivals.com. At 5 p.m., Riversmith’s will be hosting eating contests in the following categories: Adult Catfish, Adult Cobbler, Kid’s Catfish and Kid’s Cobbler. The Kids Area will be open and available throughout the day featuring free activities such as Kids Yoga at 11:30 a.m., water slides, a mechanical bull, an obstacle course, a Spider Climber, a petting zoo, pony rides and so much more.
Throughout the day, two major stages will feature regional standout bands in the Sunbelt Cool Zone to keep Mackenzie Park cool and popping all day. On the East Stage, you can catch Fellow American, the Derek Bohl Band, Gypsy Jane, the Caleb Jude Green Band, and Jerry Serrano and the Alma Quartet. At the West Stage, Danny Cadra, Austin Meade, the Judson Cole Band, Bobby G and the Galaxy Band, and the Seth Ward Band will be performing throughout the day.
The Covenant Health and First Bank & Trust evening concert will feature Brad Leali, Dustin Garrett, Baby Jade, The Caldwell Kids, Jason Fellers, Sheena Fadeyi, Jeff Bailey, Kenny Maines, Will Bannister, Craig Elliott, Blaire Elbert, Avery Guyear, Brandon Gwinn, Haley Simpson, Gabriella Flores, Butch “The Soul Man” Avery, Kassidy King, Addie Bleu, Jeff McCreight, Madalyn Franklin, and the Caldwell Collective Band. Following the concert and capping off this Independence Day, the spectacular Reagor Dykes Fireworks Extravaganza will begin at 10 p.m., choreographed with live music by the Youth Orchestras of Lubbock under the direction of Dr. Laurie Williams.
