The following is a news release from Broadway Festivals, Inc.:
For almost three decades, 4th on Broadway at Mackenzie Park has been an event that Lubbock and the entire region look forward to year after year. This year will be even more of the spectacular family fun West Texas has come to expect. With several days of events, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Heroes.”
The events, though, don’t happen without hundreds of volunteers, said Don Caldwell, Broadway Festivals, Inc. president. He encourages any groups or families to get involved.
“It’s the volunteers who make it run so smoothly,” Caldwell said. “It’s a great way to get involved in the community, and frankly, we need you!”
With the number of events planned, there is a place for everyone who wants to pitch in to help. See the complete schedule of events.
Individuals or groups can volunteer at all of the week’s events, which to date include:
- Amigos La Raza on the Plaza dance on Saturday, June 29
- Fibermax Texas Country Street Dance on July 3.
- Sonic Parade
- New Attraction: Lubbock National Bank Ferris Wheel
- Sunbelt Rental’s Cool Zone
- Alderson BMW Daytime Concerts in the Park
- Bolton Oil Change Youth Fishing Tournament Hosted by Cabela’s
- Riversmith’s Catfish and Cherry Cobble Gobbler Eating Contests
- 4th on Broadway Kids Area
- Covenant Health and First Bank & Trust’s 4th of July Star Spangled Celebration Concert
- Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Fireworks Extravaganza
Volunteers are also needed to work with the platinum sponsor, Coca Cola, in their booths throughout the four-day event. Other areas needing volunteers include parking lot attendants, photographers, information booths and data collection.
Volunteer applications are available online.
Steering committee volunteers also are essential, Caldwell said. Those cover areas like research, kids’ area, street dances, logistics, signage, eating competition, volunteer center, music/vendor liaison and the picnic in the park.
“Steering committee members basically help us organize each area, come up with new ideas on what could be fun, or done better, and recruit volunteers to man each area during the event,” he said.
4th on Broadway is looking to church, school, college, civic and other organizations to get involved in volunteering, and he says, it’s not too early to start planning.
“In addition to multiple monetary sponsorships, this year Broadway Festivals will offer advertising opportunities for companies who will trade out their labor force to help with the various areas,” Caldwell said. Contact Broadway Festivals for an appointment to discuss the possibilities.
