Emergency crews were called to a three-vehicle crash Wednesday evening followed by a five-vehicle crash nearby.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the first location was County Road 1700 between County Road 6300 and FM 2641. The second was County Road 1800 and County Road 6300. The time was about 7:40 p.m.

It turns out, one of the crashes was just outside Lubbock city limits and the other was inside the city (the far northwestern edge).

A photojournalist was on the scene and said it appeared that EMS took at least one person to a local hospital.  The photojournalist was working to get more information.

A DPS spokesman said, “We have two different crashes. One is a three-vehicle crash and one is a five-vehicle crash. Troopers are just now on the scene. so it will be a little bit before I have details.”

The spokesman later said the crash inside city limits will be investigated by Lubbock Police.

Just after 9:00 pm, Lubbock-Cooper ISD released a statement:

On the evening of Wednesday, February 20, a Lubbock-Cooper vehicle was involved in a crash near Kent Street.

The crash occurred while one Lubbock-Cooper High School teacher was transporting two Lubbock-Cooper students from Shallowater following a student council event.

Both students were evaluated by paramedics and found to have no injuries, but are being transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The teacher was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Just before 10 p.m., a DPS spokesman said the three-vehicle crash involved a man’s van breaking down. He said the man’s girlfriend pulled in front of the broken down van so he could jump start it.

The DPS spokesman said another vehicle was heading north on Milwaukee and struck the back of the van. This pinned the man between the vehicles and he ended up under the van.

The man is in critical condition at this time, according to the DPS spokesman.
