The following is a news release from KSSL Radio:
For the fifth year, KSSL Radio and the Lubbock Elks Lodge are working together with Texas Dive Center of Lubbock for the Texas South Plains Honor Flight Radiothon, April 13, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., at the Elks Lodge, 3409 Milwaukee, announced Cathy Whitten, KSSL owner. The event raises funds to send area World War II, Korea and Vietnam era veterans to visit their war memorials in Washington, DC in October.
The 11 hour show, broadcast on KSSL 107.3 & 94.1 FM and at www.ksslfm.com, will feature stories from area veterans who have previously travelled to Washington DC on the Honor Flight, as well as several ways that the listeners can help.
“Our sponsors and our listeners are very committed to sending these veterans to Washington, DC,” Whitten said. “They have shown in the past four Radiothons how important this effort is to them. It is important that we honor the men and women who sacrificed so much for our freedom. I was blessed to be a part of the 2017 flight as a guardian and it was a very emotional to see the reception these men and women received, to hear them reminisce about their service and to touch these monuments and memorials” Whitten added.
The day will include a Pancake Breakfast from 8-10 a.m. at the Lubbock Elks Lodge. Pancakes, sausage and all the fixings are included for a donation to the Texas South Plains Honor Flight. Food trucks are scheduled 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the parking lot. Also available during the day will be train rides and face painting for the kids and kids at heart.
