The keys to a successful lighted parade are the parade participants and the crowd to enjoy it. Parade organizers are currently accepting applications for parade participants available on the parade website at www.miraclesparade.com. The deadline for submission remains Friday, December 1, 2017. A successful parade of 30-40 units and a crowd of more than 35,000 is anticipated for December 9th.
Parade organizers are encouraging local businesses, non-profit groups, youth groups, churches, and even families to become an active participant in this year’s Miracles Christmas Parade December 9th. Fill out an application and plan to participate in this 13th Annual Parade down 34th Street from Avenue Q to Indiana Avenue.
This is a colorful night-time parade, thus the need and requirement for lots of lights to illuminate parade floats, groups and individuals. Guidelines, rules, and regulations for participants are available on the website at www.miraclesparade.com. The parade begins at 6:00pm at 34th and Avenue Q, will roll west down 34th Street to Indiana Avenue.
The parade theme is “March of the Toys”. The purpose and goal of the parade is to bring cheer to every spectator, participants, and organizers, and to provide families and individuals a free event to build lasting holiday memories and traditions.
The list of participants so far includes the Texas Tech Masked Rider, 50 Grand Marshals from the Texas Tech Cheerleaders and Tech Pom Squad, antique tractors from the South Plains Antique Tractors Association, and the award-winning Coronado High School Marching Band. Other bands are finalizing their participation plans prior to the deadline.
“March of the Toys” takes on a special meaning for this year’s parade theme as the final float in the parade will be the United States Marines carrying Santa Claus! Marines will be walking near the street to accept unwrapped toys from the public attending the parade as part of their Toys for Tots Toy Campaign. Last year more than 8,000 toys were collected for the parade.
A mandatory meeting of all parade participants will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at 34th and Louisville inside the Sunset Church Family Life Building.
The public is invited to attend the parade, which is free of charge. After all, one of the keys to a successful lighted parade is an excited crowd.
