The Buddy Holly Center is pleased to present Barbie: Examining an Icon, opening January 26, in the Fine Arts Gallery. This is an open invitational exhibition featuring artworks in various media that explore and respond to themes associated with this iconic doll.

Created by Ruth Handler, co-founder of Mattel, Barbie came on the scene in 1959 at the New York Toy Fair. Now 59 years later, Barbie is still a global icon that remains an important part of today’s culture inspiring girls with over 180 career choices and offering endless storytelling possibilities.

In addition to the exhibition, there will be a panel discussion featuring the varying viewpoints of experts from the areas of Women’s Studies; Clothing/Fashion/Textiles; and Marketing on Thursday, February 8, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Barbie: Examining an Icon, will be on display January 26 through March 18, in the Fine Arts Gallery at the Buddy Holly Center located at 1801 Crickets Ave.
