Bomb Threat Reported at Lubbock Bank Location, 19th and Quaker

Lubbock Police were called to the corner of 19th Street and Quaker Avenue just before 3:00 pm for the report of a bomb threat.  

Police said someone dropped a bag inside the Happy State Bank branch and said, “It’s a bomb.”  The person then ran away.


Initially, police described it as a pipe bomb. At about 4:24 p.m. police said the suspicious device was removed from the scene would be taken to the police academy for destruction or dismantling.  

Then at about 4:45 p.m. police said the situation was a bank robbery.

Police issued a suspect description, saying the man was white, in his 20’s or 30’s, and had a beard.  He was last seen riding a bike westbound.  Anyone with information was asked to call 911 or Crime Line at 806-741-1000.

At about 2:30, Texas Tech Police sent out an alert that officers were investigating a suspicious package.  Lubbock Police said the incident at 19th and Quaker might be related to the situation at Texas Tech. 

So far, there have been no reports of injuries.
