A school bus fell into a sinkhole Friday morning at 42nd Street and Boston Avenue. Lubbock ISD said no students were on the bus, but a driver and an aide were onboard. They suffered minor injuries according to LISD.
“As the bus passed over the street, the pavement collapsed beneath the rear wheels and the bus became stuck,” LISD said.
LISD also said, “A water main break apparently created the instability in the street.”
The City of Lubbock released a statement about two hours after the sinkhole appeared:
City of Lubbock Pipeline Maintenance Crews are working to repair a ruptured water line at 42nd Street and Elgin Avenue. The ruptured line caused a pavement collapse in the area. 42nd Street from Canton to Elgin Avenue will be closed to through traffic while the repairs are completed. The closure is anticipated to last through the weekend, at least.
The waterline rupture has not interrupted service for any customers.
The pavement collapse caused a Lubbock ISD School Bus to become stuck. According to the District, no students were on board the bus at the time. The District reports that the driver and bus aid had minor injuries.
