Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a crash with injuries that resulted when a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple traffic violations.

Around 4:34pm this evening a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on 38th and Ave Q on a grey dodge nitro for multiple traffic violations when the individual fled and refuse to stop causing a crash into a red Chevrolet cruse that was occupied by two adults and two juveniles on the block of 34th and Ave U. The suspect then fled on foot where he was apprehended in the back yard of 2103 37th.

All four occupants of the red Chevrolet cruse were transported by EMS with unknown injuries at this time.

The suspect Matthew McWhorter DOB 06/27/1985 was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Fail to stop and render aid x4 (Serious bodily injury)
  • Evading motor vehicle (Serious Bodily injury)
  • Evading on foot
  • theft

At this time, we have no booking photo for Mr. McWhorter or the names of the other occupants in the other vehicle.

Incident is still under investigation, nothing further at this time.
