Born six weeks early, Madison McCreight spent the first week of her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Covenant Children’s. 24 years later, McCreight is a nurse in the same unit she was born.

When McCreight started at Covenant Children’s, she met Lori Bannister, who said her name sounded familiar.

“We were switching off patients one day and she looked at me and said, ‘Were you a preemie?’ and I said, ‘How did you know?'” McCreight said. “She just remembered my name.”

Bannister looked after McCreight during her weeklong stay at the NICU 24 years ago.

“It was not just me that took care of her,” Bannister said. “There are several other nurses who took care of her at the same time.”

Throughout her 29-year career, Bannister has seen her fair share of nurses and said McCreight’s passion and drive is unmatched.

“She is so smart and wants to learn,” Bannister said. “She takes the high-risk babies, and if she has questions, she is not afraid to ask them. I cannot even explain it. It is just full circle.”

Now McCreight gets the chance to learn from the woman who has been there from the beginning.

“I would die a happy person if I could be half the nurse she is,” McCreight said. “If I could hand pick anyone in the unit to take care of me, she would be one of them.”
