WHAT: Covenant Children’s will open and dedicate Covenant Kids Discovery Garden

WHEN: 2-3 p.m. Monday (June 5)

WHERE: Covenant Children’s, 4000 24th St. (Media meet in main lobby; please bring valid ID to check in.)

EVENT: Young patients at Covenant Children’s will have the opportunity to learn and play in this beautiful space designed just for kids. This one-of-a-kind garden is intended to entertain children undergoing treatment and other medical challenges and encourages them to engage in interactive play.

The discovery space includes sensory features like lamb’s ear and other decorative plants, as well as herbs, fruits and vegetables such as basil, strawberries, cucumbers, eggplant and tomatoes – all to help teach healthy eating habits. Other features include “acorn” chairs, a “log” bench and a balance log, with occupational and other therapeutic needs in mind.  Other main attractions are a mom and foal horse sculpture and larger-than-life playable chimes.

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to facilitate the ribbon cutting. Along with other community partners, Parkhill, Smith & Cooper contributed a $20,000 grant to help fund the project.
